As we all know, the IPad has been released. The release was accompanied by a lot of fanfare over the device and was on every television show, newspaper front page, and web site imaginable. The media onslaught was ongoing and it might be justified because the IPad looks like an impressive piece of machinery. Even though it looks good and is probably fun to use as well, the reality of the situation is that the IPad uses the same operating system that the IPhone does. They are almost exactly identical. So this makes a person who is not in the Apple fan base, wonder if Google could do the same thing with the Android operating system? And the answer is, of course they can.

Right now, Google has a hit on their hands with the Android. With so many popular phones using the operating system, it is quickly becoming one of the most popular types of phones to use. Now that it has a rising fan base, I think people would really enjoy the Android operating system on a much bigger device. To have the power of the Android operating system on a device as big as the IPad would be a dream that comes true to anyone who owns a Nexus One or Droid cell phone. Since they would already be users of the cell phones that the operating system runs on, it would only be a small learning curb to be able to use and effectively operate this new device. I think that all of the users are salivating over the thoughts of this happening but there is a bit of bad news to tell them as well.

The bad news is that this most likely would never happen. Google already has an operating system that specializes in devices of that type and size. The operating system is called ChromeOS and it is made for the Netbook market. What most likely would happen is that they would transport that operating system over to an IPad type device and give it the ability to use touch sensors just like the Android. It takes special work to make an operating system work on different types of chips and the ChromeOs already has the software needed to be able to use a chip that would run a device like the IPad. The closest we would probably get is to merge of the two operating systems together.
