Windows 7 Compared to Windows XP
By: Goonie HariLarge majority of Microsoft Windows PC users never really made the move to the Vista operating system even though it has been on the market for around eight years. Most of these people that never upgraded are still using Windows XP. Now that Microsoft has officially ended Windows XP and it is difficult to buy a new PC with the XP operating system many XP users hope that Windows 7 will be something that they can be happy upgrading too.
Here are some windows 7 features that might make the upgrade acceptable:
The Taskbar and the System Tray have gotten a thorough makeover.
Even though Explorer has not changed a lot its left pane does give the user two ways to get at their files: Libraries and Home Groups
Much improved User Account Control over the frustrating Vista Version
Reduced applications – Microsoft has eliminated Windows Mail (Outlook Express), Windows Movie Maker and Windows Photo Gallery
Offers numerous ways to connect your PC to all sorts of external devices
Has built-in multi-touch support
Much slimmer and slightly faster than Vista
A more media savvy windows media player
The list above is some of the major features. PC World has a special issue focusing on Inside Windows 7. It condenses the major features and gives a good explanation of each.
One deciding factor for current XP users that is outside the actual features of Windows 7 is the life of their current Windows XP operating system.
Many Windows XP users know that they will eventually have to upgrade and they know that Vista is not the path they want to take. Therefore, they hope that Microsoft, with Windows 7, has introduced an operating system that they not only can live with but will actually be an improvement for them.
If you have a lot of third party software and your PC is a tool you use to provide your income then upgrading your operating system can be expensive. Not only do you have the expense of the operating system software itself but it will also cost one a lot of money in hours lost from work while performing all the third party software upgrades that you use in your work. In addition, there time lost from work while learning the new operating system software features.
So, people who look at their Laptop or Computer as a tool to help making their work life easier, do not take lightly the expense and time associated with upgrading any part of it. They really want to think that it is all time well spent.
