Leading mobile phone company of Japan, NTT DoCoMo has developed a prototype touch-screen phone made of Surplus Wood. This prototype construction is the result of cooperation with the electronics company Sharp Corporation and Olympus Corporation, and musician Ryuichi Sakamoto.
As reported by Newlaunches.com, phone called Touch Wood is made from Surplus Wood. Wood was chosen because of durable, waterproof, insects, and mildew.
Touch Wood printed with a special three-dimensional compression developed by Olympus Corporation. Each unit has a Touch Wood grain pattern, color, and looks different. Original scent of the wood was retained because of not using paint or artificial coloring. Wooden color also shines thanks to the compression process.
The phone will be exhibited at the ITU Telecom World event in 2009 in Geneva, Switzerland, on 5-9 October. In addition will also be exhibited at CEATEC Japan 2009 at Makuhari Messe, Chiba Prefecture, Japan, on October 6-10.
