Ubuntu operating system, somewhere deep in the Ubuntu headquarters the developers are working hard to bring us all the new stuff that happens in the Linux world today. Therefore we proudly announce that the first ubuntu 9.10 alpha release. There are only some changes in the ubuntu 9.10 alpha. In ubuntu 9.10 alpha there’s nothing new on the surface… the same wallpaper, same GNOME version as in Ubuntu 9.04. The system is fast as usual, with no major problems at the moment, except for the fact that the video drivers don’t work, yet. Probably starting with the fifth or sixth alpha we will see some big changes, like that professional theme everyone is still waiting for. Ubuntu 9.10 alpha is now part of the Ubuntu operating system.

Just a quick video (sped up 2x) to show the program versions included in this release. Nothing has changed tbh, but it’s only alpha 3, so it’s still got a few to go yet Final release of Karmic Koala is October 23rd I think. One day after Windows 7!

Ubuntu 9.10 Alpha 3 “Karmic Koala” on the Dell Vostro A90 (Mini 9)

A video of the impressive boot time of Ubuntu 9.10 Alpha 3 “Karmic Koala”. Installed on a Dell Vostro A90, which is pretty much identical to the Mini 9. Intel® Atom Processor® N270 (1.6GHz/533Mhz FSB/512K cache), 1GB DDR2 533MHz, SDRAM 1 DIMM, 16GB Solid State Drive (manually partitioned without a swap, EXT4 was the default), Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 950 (Working 100% better in this release), Broadcom Wireless 802.11g Mini Card (Proprietary driver works in restricted drivers, but only after some updates using a Wired connection).

The main features of Ubuntu 9.10 Alpha are described on the official website. Some of the interesting features are seamless integration and synchronization between multiple machines and a convenient web interface. On the other hand, Xubuntu 9.04 Alpha 3 is build on top of the lightweight XFCE 4.6.1 desktop environment and includes updated applications. There are not many useful and interesting features in ubuntu 9.10 alpha as compared to the latest versions of ubuntu.
