What does vision – based augmented reality mean? Well it is pulling data from a device’s camera and using it to position and rotate 3D models drawn on the top of an on-screen view of the real world- not really anything new but it sounds very cool right?
There were tech demos of this concept five or so years ago with games like Sony’s Eye of Judgment have actually have been doing this concept for nearly five years or so. However just recently the concept has been moving from video games onto mobile phones ( nice idea ) – but only mobile phone that are already have camera and display that is already built into one unit.
Until recently , the idea has been more or less unique to those with tons of cash or of course manpower to spare.
Why make this free Vision- based argument reality platform to many mobile developers, well to sell more phones duh. Because it’s free it won’t change the price of phones to drastically instead just add an extra feature for those who desire to have their phones be unique. A good example would be the Android. So the idea being to get developers to make apps using this platform and convince the normal consumer that need faster phones.
So how does it work. The users gets a gameboard, from either printing it out or grabbing one from a cereal box, the unique pattern on this game board serves as the item that the argument reality platform is searching for. So once the platform identifies the board it calculates it’s size along with orientation of the fly and then places objects onto it. Thus as the platform rotates around the board the objects also rotate as the same time. Right now the platform will be able to support multiple objects and even identify non flat objects Cool right?
